BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES

Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones (progesterone, estrogen, DHEA) that your own body creates. Bio-identical means that the hormones are an exact match to the hormones produced by the human body. These hormones get their start in nature. Found in soy beans and wild yams, they can then be easily converted into the exact hormones that the body makes. The body can recognize these bioidentical hormones and use them just as it would if they were being produced by the ovaries, testes, or adrenal glands. Bioidentical hormones are not patentable, but are much safer for your body. Because most physicians are not given much education on bioidentical hormones and natural bioidentical hormone replacement therapies, most physicians prescribe what drug companies recommend.

Synthetic hormones, which the drug companies make differently in order to patent the drugs, (such as PremPro, Provera, and Premarin) are all examples of synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones are not easily recognized by the body even though they may produce similar effects. Because they are hundreds of times stronger than the hormones that our bodies make, they are linked to many side effects. HRT or hormone replacement therapy for decades has been a most used type of therapy, with many doctors unaware of natural alternatives such as bioidentical hormones like Natural Progesterone Cream for menopause, peri-menopause and PMS symptoms.

The great appeal of bioidentical hormones is that they are natural, and our bodies can metabolize them as it was designed to do, minimizing side effects. Synthetic hormones are quite strong and often produce intolerable side effects. Most side effects seen with bio-identical hormones are associated with incorrect dosing. By making slight variations in the dose the side effects often disappear.

It would seem reasonable that the easiest way to take hormones is by swallowing a pill. Unfortunately, once the hormones are absorbed by the blood it goes directly to the liver where some of the hormones are inactivated. Topically applied hormones are absorbed directly from the skin right into the blood where they immediately start working. Eventually, all chemicals end up in the liver being inactivated and/or converted to other products. One of the benefits of topical creams is that they can be easily adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of application used per day.

BioIdentical Hormones or Synthetic Hormones?

HRT or hormone replacement therapy for decades has been “drug of choice” type of therapy, with many doctors unaware of natural alternatives such as bioidentical hormones like Natural Progesterone Cream for menopause, peri-menopause and PMS symptoms.

Dangers of Synthetic Hormones

Some of the side effects of synthetic hormones include not sleeping, lack of sex drive and just an overall feeling of no energy. On the other hand, bioidentical hormones create feelings of increased energy, a healthy libido, weight loss, better memory, reduced facial hair and just an overall sense of well being. They help with early menopause, peri-menopause symptoms, and can ease common menopause symptoms.

The Journal of American Medical Association – JAMA – released findings in 2010 based on a new study of 12,000 menopausal women over 11 years. They found that women who took HRT drugs had a 50 percent higher risk of developing debilitating diseases:

For every 10,000 women taking Prempro each year:

8 more will develop breast cancer
7 more will have a heart attack or other coronary event
8 more will have a stroke
8 more will have blood clots in the lungs
